Question: I have planted a Boronia - Purple Jared in my garden two months ago. All of a sudden, it looks like it's dying. All the leaves are starting to curl up. It looks really dry but we have had plenty of rain so that can\'t be it unless it has had too much rain. Please help.

Boronias are very sensitive to their environment and at present we have had more rain than usual for this time of year. Boronias prefer a very well drained site with dappled or morning sun. The recent rain has seen a lot of fungal problems, especially Phytophora (root rot) which infects the root hairs and rots fine roots. Phytophora also causes branches to die back from the tips down. If the plant is not too badly infected it can be saved by drenching the area with a fungicide. I would also suggest cutting the plant back to promote re-growth. If the plant looks like it has died then removing the plant and either treating the soil or leaving it fallow for a month or so should be done before anything else is planted in the same position.

Question: My mother used to have what she called a \'Christmas Bush\'. Do you have any idea what the plant name is? Do you sell them?

It depends on whether you were living in NSW or Victoria or elsewhere because each state seems to have a Native plant it calls "Christmas Bush". Our plant of the month is the NSW Christmas Bush (Ceratopetalum gummiferum) which flowers white early in December but which turns a beautiful red colour around Christmas. You can prune it hard when in flower and it keeps well as a cut flower. The Victorian Christmas Bush is a white flowering Mint Bush, Prostanthr lasianthos.

The photo you sent was not an indigenous plant. It looks as if it was part of a floral arrangement, quite attractive. We think it might have been Indian rattle bush but we don't have any reference to be 100% sure.Sugges yout to send to Herbarium at the Sydney Botanic Gardens or refer to a florist.
Unfortunately when you ask for a bouquet of native plants from a florist, they seldom send many true native plants. There is a lot of confusion here and most florists believe that Proteas are native and include them when they are actually from South Africa.Other plants in the photo were actually Proteas. Michele
